Call Feature

A feature written into some bond indentures giving the issuer the right to redeem all or part of the issue prior to the scheduled maturity date.

CaVal rating

Standard & Poor's national scale rating for issuers and issues in the Mexican financial markets.

CEDEL

Globally recognized maturity-specific market identifier, generated by the CEntrale DE Livraison, (renamed CLEARSTREAM).
Rule: If the maturity has a CEDEL assignment in addition to a CINS or ISIN, this field will contain the CEDEL identifier. Otherwise, this field will be blank.

Certificate of Deposit (CD)

A debt obligation issued by a bank of thrift. Maturities range from a few months to several years and usually have a long- and a short-term rating.

CINS (CUSIP International Numbering System)

CUSIP International Numbering System. Nine-character issue identifier assigned by the CUSIP Service Bureau. The first six characters identify the geographic region and issuer. Positions seven and eight identify the issue. Position nine is a check digit and is automatically generated.

Class Name

Descriptive data used to designate a specific class of instruments or within a series of an instrument's maturity schedule.

Collateral Type

Code that identifies the type of collateral for a given security, such as 1015YRFIX (10 to 15 yr fixed rate).

Collateralized Mortgage Obligation (CMO)

A debt obligation issued by a special purpose entity (usually called a trust) collateralized by a pool of mortgages or by other kinds of mortgage-backed securities.

Commercial Paper (CP)

Short-term debt obligation with maturities ranging from two to 270 days.

Common Code

Globally recognized nine-character maturity-specific market identifier–allocated by the two international clearers–CLEARSTREAM and EUROCLEAR.
Rule: If the maturity has a Common Code assignment in addition to a CINS or ISIN identifier, this field will contain the common code. Otherwise, this field will be blank.

Convertible Preferred Stock

A class of preferred corporate stock that can be exchanged for a specified value in common stock.

Corporate Bond

An issue that represents an investor's loan to a corporation. The bond certificate states the obligor's or issuer's contract to pay a defined amount of money at a specific time.

Country Code

Three-letter code that identifies the issuer's country of domicile.

Coupon Rate

The annual rate of interest payable on a security, expressed as a percentage of the principle amount.

Coupon Type

Single-character code used to denote a type of coupon payment method.

Credit Rating

Standard & Poor's opinion of the overall creditworthiness of an obligor (issuer credit rating) or an issuer's creditworthiness with respect to a specific debt issue (issue specific credit rating).

Creditwatch

Entities appear on CreditWatch when an event or deviation from an expected trend has occurred or is expected, and additional information is necessary to take a rating action.
CreditWatch assessments:

  • POS Positive
  • NEG Negative
  • NM Not Meaningful
  • DEV Developing

CreditWatch Date

Date on which an entity, maturity or program was placed on CreditWatch.

Currency Type Code

Three-character code that identifies the currency in which an instrument has been issued.

Current Amount

Current amount outstanding on a debt obligation (maturity or program).

Current Amount Date

Date that the original sales amount was lowered to the current amount outstanding on a debt obligation (maturity or program).

CUSIP

Committee for Uniform Security Identification Procedures. Nine-character issue identifier for the U.S. and Canada. The first six characters identify the issuer. Positions seven and eight identify the issue. Position nine is a check digit and is automatically generated.
